   We have had a different kind of experience in preparation for this trip.  We will be away for all of December missing all of the Christmas festivities at home.
    Originally, we booked two cruises with a week in between the cruises. The second cruise will have a different blog title. The original plans were to take a cruise through the Panama Canal leaving Florida and entering the Panama Canal from east to west and then cruising to Valparaiso, Chile, staying there for a week then boarding another ship and cruising south to Antarctica then north to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
   In late August, just before we left for New Delhi, India, we were advised that the Antarctic cruise embarkation port had been changed from Valparaiso, Chile, to San Antonio, Chile, - a port town 91 km south of Valparaiso taking route 68. 
  We shortened our Valparaiso stay by a day at the end and arranged accommodation in San Antonio for the night before this cruise. We will take a local bus to San Antonio from Valparaiso.
  During this cruise, December 17 is a Chilean election day for the second round of Presidential voting and a National Holiday!  We are scheduled to be in Puerto Montt, Chile that day.
    We are ready for our adventure.
Our postings will be intermittent as we are not planning on purchasing any internet time and will post when we are in port were we can access Wi-fi.

The blog is now complete.  I was having problems with Blogger moving posts around and not letting me upload pictures.  I was only able to put some pictures in and then I would get locked out for days.  I think I have resolved the issues and today was able to post the final 148 pictures in one session.

    Today, the ship was anchored in the harbour of Puerto Chacabuco, Aisen province; it is in the Patagonian region of southern South America and is the gateway to the Chilean fjords. The passengers took the tender boats to shore, for the third day in a row. The next tendering port is Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, almost two weeks away.      The village of more than 1,300 is located at the head of Ays é n Fjord. An important battle of Spanish South America’s War of Independence was fought here in 1817.   Here, Chile's longest suspension bridge is located connecting Puerto Chacabuco to old Puerto Aysén. Since the eruption of Mount Hudson volcano in 1991, Puerto Chacabuco has been the main port of the Aysén Fjord. Laguna San Rafael National Park is nearby.    Today is the longest day of the year in the southern hemisphere.   The latitude position this morning was 50.49. The ship is in the Chilean territory of the Terra Del Fuego. The name mean Land of Fire, since the first explorer saw the campfires of the natives on shore. We awoke to another cloudy day, which is to be expected while cruising along a rainforest. The temperature was 8 C and it was windy.   During breakfast, we passed through rain and later the sun popped through the clouds momentarily. The day was mostly overcast and cool with occasional light rain.    We requested, on the third day, that the newsletter with Canadian news be delivered to our cabin, since it was not usually printed and we needed to wait in line at the Front Desk to ask for a copy to be printed.
